In this activity students will learn about the supply and demand of ivory throughout the past century. Students will map the changing trade routes of ivory and gain an understanding of international trade in the process.

In the first hour students will trace back one of their items of clothing that was manufactured in another country. They will try to conceptualize the travel of goods internationally.

In the second, students will be introduced to ivory trade routes by watching the film Battle for Elephants.

In the third hour, students will pair into groups and research different possible trade routes that ivory takes. Where does ivory exist? Where is ivory consumed? How does it get from an elephant to the end consumer?
